Gary Tannenbaum, Principal, Miltan Management Corp.

September 13, 2023, New York, NY Reach Out and Read of Greater New York (ROR GNY) will celebrate serving the next generation of New York’s readers on October 12, 2023, at the Edison Ballroom. The ROR GNY leadership, staff, and Board of Directors are thrilled to honor longtime supporter, champion, Board member, and friend Gary Tannenbaum, real estate entrepreneur and Principal of Miltan Management Corp.

Reach Out and Read of Greater New York gives young children a foundation for success by incorporating books into pediatric care and encouraging families to read aloud together. Building on the unique relationship between families and medical providers, ROR GNY gives parents and guardians the tools to develop their children’s early literacy skills. Reach Out and Read is proud to be the only national pediatric literacy model endorsed by the American Academy of Pediatrics.

This year’s benefit, A Book for Every Child, will recognize the collaborative effort of the ROR GNY community and honor Gary’s outstanding commitment to early childhood literacy. A dedicated and generous Board Member since 2004, over the years he has served as the Board of Director’s Treasurer and on various leadership committees, including the Governance, Nominating, and Finance Committees, among others. Gary’s leadership with ROR GNY has impacted the lives of hundreds of thousands of children across the five boroughs and Hudson Valley. He and his wife Helen Mills have graciously shown their commitment to promoting a lifelong love of reading in children by sponsoring the Gary Tannenbaum and Helen Mills Award for Children’s Literacy since 2013. Emily Marchese, Executive Director, shared: “Gary is an outstanding supporter of Reach Out and Read of Greater New York. His enthusiasm and efforts have helped us expand our services to reach more children across the region; we now serve over 265,000 families across 230 sites! During Gary’s tenure, we have proudly distributed over 6 million books (and counting!). We’re lucky to have his leadership on our Board of Directors and are thrilled to honor him this year.”

Tannenbaum and his wife are also dedicated patrons of arts and education. They established the Helen Mills Event Space and Theater on West 26th Street in 2005 and an online review site for off-off Broadway plays (offoffonline.com); and they are proud alumni and generous donors of Baruch College.

Additionally, ROR GNY will honor esteemed medical professionals and colleagues who champion the mission of ROR GNY in their communities: Yuly Munoz, New York Presbyterian Hospital (New Champion Coordinator Award); Denis Traore, MD, Jack D. Weiler Hospital, Children’s Hospital at Montefiore (Health Equity Advocate Award); Regine Walton, LPN, Mount Sinai South Nassau Family Medicine (Jack Pace Living, Breathing ROR GNY Award); Care for the Homeless Junius Street Health Center (Whole Family Advocate Award); Kelechi Ngwangwa, MD (Advocate for Diverse Books Award); and Mariely Fernandez, MD, Center for Comprehensive Health Practice (Trusted Messenger Award).
