Rosalba Messina Joins Reach Out and Read of Greater New York As Interim Executive Director
Reach Out and Read of Greater New York has announced the appointment of Rosalba Messina, MPA as Interim Executive Director, effective September 29, 2014.
Ms. Messina is the Principal and Founder of Messina Consulting Group, LLC, a management consulting firm specializing in non-profits, and has served a wide array of organizations including the YWCA Bergen County, the Hearing Health Foundation, and Women in Need, Inc. In her roles as CEO, COO and consultant, Messina has successfully addressed the needs of organizations navigating executive transitions.
“We are delighted to welcome Rosalba Messina to our team as Interim Executive Director,” said Reach Out and Read of Greater New York Board Chair Jack Pace. “It is an exciting time of growth for our organization. With greater national attention on early childhood learning and the role of pediatricians as advocates for literacy, we have an extraordinary opportunity to influence future generations. We are confident in Rosalba’s talent to lead us in this exciting time of opportunity and growth.”
Reach Out and Read of Greater New York prepares children for success in school by partnering with pediatricians to prescribe books and encourage families to read together. Now in its 15th year, the organization reaches over a quarter of a million children annually through over 200 clinical locations in New York City, Long Island and the Hudson Valley.
In June 2014, Reach Out and Read of Greater New York was among eight partner organizations collectively awarded a $1.5 million grant by New York City Council to provide early literacy services to families, and it is a key partner in other children’s literacy networks throughout the region.
“Reach Out and Read of Greater New York has an impressive track record of providing literacy support to children and their families at a critical time in their development. I’m absolutely honored to apply my skills, knowledge, and experience during this period of transition,” Messina said.
Before launching her own consulting firm, Ms. Messina held executive-level positions for numerous non-profit organizations and corporations.
Ms. Messina replaces Traci Lester, who led Reach Out and Read of Greater New York through a period of dynamic growth and expansion, from 2004 through September 2014.
