Volunteers from PIMCO, Random House, and area health centers packed up 30,000 books for children!
August 2, 2014 — Brooklyn, NY — Twelve amazing individuals answered our call for volunteers and packed thousands of donated books into boxes for our program sites. The books, which were donated by Baby Buggy, needed to be packed into smaller boxes that could be conveniently distributed to our program sites. Volunteers from PIMCO completed the first round of book packing, but there was still plenty to be done. That’s when we put out a general call for volunteers.
We were delighted to have friends join us from Random House, Harlem Hospital Center, Charles B. Wang Community Health Center, Lutheran Family Health Centers, and Open Door Family Medical Centers. The majority of volunteers were Reach Out and Read medical champions and program coordinators so committed to the program that they were willing to give up a lovely Saturday in the city to help out.
These committed volunteers rolled up their sleeves and packed ALL the remaining books! The boxes are now neatly stacked and ready to be picked up by program sites on August 15th at a book distribution that will be the culmination of our Early Literacy Awareness Week.
Thank you to all the volunteers who made this possible!
